The Very Little Band, for HKW’s The Disappearance of Music (2020)

This piece was recorded for Haus der Kulturen der Welt video series The Disappearance of Music (Das Verschwinden der Musik), where musicians offer insights into their composition processes.
This video documents the production of a song of Ale Hop’s upcoming album “The Life of the Insects,” out on October 23rd, on Buh Records. After spending weeks living with different types of insects in her home studio, which were bought from a local insect dealer in Berlin, the artist came up with a musical language that could counterpoint the fictional universe of the insects, comprised principally of several layers and textures of guitars that mimic environmental and atmospheric sounds. The little collaborators on the video are House Crickets, Jamaican Field Crickets, and Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches.
